Pool Design & Installation in Milton | Custom Poolscapes by Greer Landscaping & Construction Corp.
Updated: Aug 24
A pool in Milton has to be planned around two things most brochures never mention: the clay-heavy soil that sits under much of the town, and the tight rear-yard access typical of newer subdivisions like Hawthorne Village, Ford, Willmott and Bristol. Greer Landscaping & Construction has spent more than 20 years building luxury poolscapes across Halton Region, and we design each Milton project around the lot we are actually standing on.

What we design and build
Custom concrete pools, plunge pools and integrated spas
Full poolscape design: Techo-Bloc pool decks, coping, steps and feature walls
Excavation, shoring and engineered backfill on clay and shallow-bedrock lots
Perimeter drainage, deck drains and grading that move water away from the pool and the house
Outdoor kitchens, cabanas, pergolas and privacy structures
Pool enclosure fencing and gates built to satisfy Town of Milton permit requirements
Lighting, irrigation and planting to finish the space
Building on Milton's soil and lots
Milton sits at the foot of the Niagara Escarpment, and ground conditions change quickly as you move west toward Kelso and Campbellville: silty clay through the newer east-end subdivisions, and shallower shale and limestone as you climb. Clay drains slowly, so an inground pool that is not backed by proper perimeter drainage and compacted, free-draining backfill can push water toward the house or heave the deck after a few freeze-thaw cycles. Closer to the escarpment, excavation can hit rock, which changes both the equipment and the schedule. We confirm conditions before we quote a fixed price, not after we have opened the ground.
Access is the second Milton-specific issue. Many newer homes have a narrow side yard between the house and the fence, which rules out a standard excavator simply walking through. We plan machine access, crane picks or temporary fence removal at the design stage so the build does not stall on day one.

Milton pool questions we get asked
Do I need a permit to build a pool in Milton?
Yes. The Town of Milton requires a pool enclosure permit before excavation begins, and properties near Sixteen Mile Creek, the escarpment or other regulated features may also need approval from Conservation Halton. We identify which approvals your lot needs during design and coordinate the applications as part of the project.
Can you get equipment into a newer Milton subdivision backyard?
Usually, yes. Where the side yard is too narrow for machine access, we use compact equipment, temporary fence removal, or crane placement of materials. We confirm the access plan before the contract is signed so there are no mid-build surprises.
How does Milton's clay soil affect a pool build?
Clay holds water and moves with freeze-thaw cycles. That makes perimeter drainage, compacted granular backfill and correct deck grading essential. They are what keeps coping tight, decks level and water away from your foundation years after the build.
